Technically, we won’t have a complete look at the Mopar ’13 Dart until the Chicago Auto Show, where it will make its official debut, but Chrysler is willing to tease the customized compact car ahead of time. This lone teaser image shows a glimpse of the Mopar-ized interior. Both front buckets are leather trimmed and boast Mopar emblems embroidered into the seat backs; interestingly, the driver’s seat boasts bright blue leather while other seats are trimmed in black leather and accented with blue stitching and inserts.
Yeah, we know; we’d love to see an exterior shot as well, but we have a pretty good indication of what Mopar has in store for the Dart. Every single Mopar special-edition model – including the Mopar ‘10 Challenger, the Mopar ‘11 Charger, and the Mopar ’12 Chrysler 300 – has boasted black exterior paint and an offset blue stripe running along the length of the car. Expect the Dart to follow in their footsteps, and perhaps also wear dark painted/tinted aluminum wheels, blacked-out trim accents, and unique badging.
Powertrain details are still unknown, but we’d wager on the Mopar ’13 Dart using either the turbocharged 1.4-liter Multiair I-4 or the Dart GT’s larger Tigershark 2.4-liter four-cylinder. Don’t, however, expect Mopar to bless the car with a large bump in power over “stock” Dart variants.
Speaking of engine choices, Chrysler also announced today it was in the process of shuffling shifts at its engine plant in Dundee, Michigan, which builds all three of the Dart’s engine options. According to the Detroit Free Press, the plant is readying for the launch of the 2.4-liter Tigershark I-4 — which was once scheduled to launch in the fall of 2012 – and throttling back output on the turbocharged 1.4-liter four-banger. Chrysler has eliminated one shift devoted to the 1.4-liter, and reassigned 44 of the 58 employees affected by the cancelation to the new 2.4-liter line.
